Two Training Sessions in One Day

Just thought I'd update you as I'm mighty proud of my little self. As its International Epilepsy Awareness Day I have completed two training sessions today! A good hour this morning on the evil rollers before work & then another 50 minutes 10 mile cycle this evening (may I add in a head wind surrounded by snow!) impressed? You should be, I am! Maybe even, some would say all the effort is  worth a bonus donation?? ;)

Rolling on the Rollers

Posted by Kati

Thought I'd update you on my progress. Feeling slightly better about the whole cycling malarkey. I have 'upped' the miles I'm doing in the week and after 50 minutes spinning on the rollers after work this evening I actually feel fine! Still the whole 100 miles seems extremely daunting at this point but the support we have received so far has kept me going and inspiring me to push a little more each day. Saying that I am dreading the snow predicted weather this weekend but when Simon decided he was going to get fit I watched him go out in all weathers for many hours so guess I have no excuse not to make him proud. I hope he is xx

Came across an old photo from 17 years ago when I used to cycle a bit. I am far right. I don't look any older now, haha

The 100 Mile Route

Posted by Gary

We had quite an easy 10 miles training today, It must have been easy Kati didn't cry, might have to get on the rollers for 40 mins tonight.
Just so you can see the route we will be taking on the 4th Aug I have posted the map (red & red/blue). And watch out for some blogs off Matty who is working down under, he has bought a bike today.

Thank You Gift

Posted by Gary

As a thank you from Team Si and hopefully encourage maybe a few more donations, I have re-worked one of my favourite art pieces I did a few years ago and decided to give an 8 x 10 mounted signed and numbered print to everybody who donates £20.00 or more to the Epilepsy Society on the teamsilondon100 page. All you need to do, once you have donated, is email teamsilondon100@gmail.com with your name and address and we will post you a print.

My intension in this photograph although ambiguous, was to use the purple colour of the epilepsy society to highlight how there can be unnecessary negative perceptions of epilepsy which can lead to social avoidance and even discrimination in the workplace. Education and awareness is the way forward, the Epilepsy Society is committed to this and many other aspects including "campaigning with people effected by epilepsy to influence society, government and media."

25 miles 550 ft climbs

Posted by Gary

Picture of myself and Kati looking chirpy before we went on our cycle today. After 25 miles, 550 ft climbs, rain and a cold wind we didn't look so chirpy. Wanted to take a picture after the ride, Kati wasn't so keen, I thought the tears running down her cheeks would make a good shot. In the dog house again, might have to get her a new trainer haha.

My Thoughtful Husband

Just thought I'd share this little gem. I got home from work this evening to Gary excitedly telling me he had a present for me (not the cycling mag he bought me yesterday-total romantic that he is!) A proper 'ladies seat' with good padding and a central cut out section (the mind boggles) but hey he 'prettied' it up with a daff!

Wedding Tackle

Posted by Gary

50 mins on the rollers this morning, getting use to them now but still daren't lift my backside of the seat for a second. Hence after about 20 mins lost all feeling in my wedding tackle. Don't worry I am not posting any pictures. Told Kati hoping for some sympathy considering she has exclusive rights, but no, all she said was, "where there's no sense"

Upping My Game

Posted by Kati

So I have got to 'step up' the training to 10 miles in the morning instead of 5-8! A little more pain, feeling the burn (and that's just my fingers, toes and nose in this freezing bloody weather). Still a new route which ( hold your breath) I actually quite like! Dyserth to Rhuddlan, Rhuddlan to Prestatyn and a climb back to Dyserth! It's full of hills so climbing and dropping and all the fun that entails. And my new issue.... School kids! Love to hog the pavements and cycle path those cherubs; then stare at me like I have two heads when I squeeze past - they don't move they just stare! (i have to admit its not my best look those padded pants and massive hat but they dont look to cute themselves) The joys of morning cycling. I miss my bed.

First Time on Rollers

Posted by Gary

Rollers arrived a couple of days ago. Myself and kati will be able to do some good interval training. I was so suprised how difficult it was to begin with to stay balanced, hence placing it between the wall and sofa so not to break my neck. Well worth the money to watch Kati fall off and hear her high pitched screams. I think she will divorce me before we get to do the London 100 either because the pleasure I take in her pain or because she just cant stand seeing me in shorts.

Work and train at the same time

I was commissioned to take photos of local beach, so thought it was a great opportunity to put in some more miles on my bike. I am lucky enough to have a good coastal cycle path. Below a couple of the results.

Gary's bike

Posted by Gary

It's a carrera tdf I bought 4 years ago when I moved to Wales from Chester and thought I would start cycling again. Did about 2 miles up a 10% gradient, nearly burst a lung and give myself a cardiac arrest turned around cycled back home put my bike in the shed and i've only just got it back out again. I put an ultegra front and rear mech on it, a pair of look pedals and a new saddle. Oh and give it a silver spay job whilst changing the rest, and this will be it for the London 100

All By Myself

Posted By Kati

Ok so awake since about 6 listening to Gary pumping away on his bike tyre. Groan, he bloody loves his bike. To be fair he did bring me a coffee which perked me up and dragged my sorry ass out of bed. Another weeks training or as I like to call it torture, begins. For the first time I found myself on my own when Gary baled with a bumpy tyre, huuummmm. The temptation to cycle to the nearest cafe for a cheeky bacon sandwich did cross my mind. But alas bloody tracker tells him everything guurrr.  So off I went, to be honest it was ok, as per usual the first few miles (down hill) were a dream as I imagined I really was getting better and everything they say about 'exercise being good for you' was possibly true. Then the dreaded return happens (up hill). Not a dream and I'm almost certain my legs weren't telling me 'exercise was good or me' either. Still I made it, quicker than I had done before and actually slightly less out of breath. The pain was still great but hey it's still early days.

Bump in Tyre

Posted by Gary

Put on over shoes today try and keep some feeling in the feet. 1 mile in and had to turn around because of annoying bump in tyre, will try and do some miles later as got to crack on with some work

Starting Our Blog

Posted by Gary

Decided to start a blog today, Kati and Matty dont know yet. The Idea is people can follow our progress over the next 5 months. I cycled 100 miles 15 years ago in 5hours 20 mins and have done very little since, infact not been on a bike for years. My goal is to get Kati under 7 hours for the 100 miles. Not an easy task since she has never riden a bike before. Matty will have to train on his own in Australia but I am hoping this blog helps us train as Team Si

Myself and Kati Cycled 20 miles today and averaged 12.2 mph, we need to average 14.4 mph to get under 7 hours for the 100. Kati didn't complain to much today apart from the saddle being being a bit uncomfortable on her ..... well I'll let her keep you up to date. In future we will have plenty of pictures with the blog, now I know we are doing one
